The Assembly Secretary has issued notices to the MLAs who have switched parties.

Hyderabad: The Assembly Secretary has issued notices to 10 BRS party MLAs who recently switched parties. These notices have been sent to the defected MLAs, and the MLAs have requested time to respond to the notices. As per the orders of the Supreme Court, the Telangana Legislative Assembly Secretary sent these notices to the MLAs, asking for a written explanation. It remains to be seen how the 10 MLAs who switched from BRS will proceed in response to these notices.

In the 2023 Assembly elections, 10 MLAs who were elected under the BRS banner joined the Congress party. BRS leaders Padi Kaushik Reddy and KP Vivekananda approached the High Court, seeking to declare these MLAs as disqualified. The High Court issued an order directing the Speaker to take action against the defected MLAs within four weeks. The Assembly Secretary approached a special bench of the High Court regarding the single judge's verdict. The special bench ruled that the Speaker has the authority to take action against the defected MLAs at any time and there is no time limit for such action. However, since the Speaker has not yet taken any decision, the BRS leadership approached the Supreme Court regarding the matter.

Even after six months of the High Court's ruling, the Speaker has not taken any action, and the petitioners pointed out that no notices were issued. The BRS party has requested the Supreme Court to enforce the verdict given in the Keshav Megh Chand case. The BRS stated that the Speaker has not taken a decision in accordance with the Supreme Court's ruling, which mandates a decision within three months on complaints filed by parties against MLAs. The BRS has now approached the Supreme Court, requesting it to direct the Speaker to take action within four weeks. A crucial decision is expected to be made by the Supreme Court in the upcoming hearings.
